Privacy

After watching the TED Talks on privacy, I felt like my eyes had opened up. I already knew, or assumed, that companies like Facebook, Instagram, X, and more accumulate loads of data and information about us, however I didn't realize the intensity and precision in their surveillance. Through websites we use in our free time, online purchases, and more is all being tracked, stored, and analyzed. Every time we may post something on social media, such as a selfie, a certain location, personal thoughts or views on something, etc. we give away more and more personal information each time that could expose us to companies, friends, and hackers.

This pretty much tells me that no matter what I’m doing online, whether it be shopping or such, I am constantly growing a virtual footprint that could
technically be used towards me. If you think deeply into this, when we are doing anything online, we are the biggest threat to ourselves. It makes me kind of curious on how much information of mine has been saved through all different companies, and what, if anything, is being tracked currently?

This affects everyone with access to the internet. If you are using any digital device currently and you have access to the internet, your information is being spread. There should be more laws on privacy when it comes to our data being spread online. We should have our own control on our own information, and we should be able to completely pick and choose what we want to share online, and what we don’t want, because sometimes companies can be very sneaky with getting you to share your information and private things you don’t want other people seeing.
Even though we can ask and ask for this, it should also be up to us to be smarter with our information and the things we put online. Privacy is a right all humans should have a right to, especially when it comes to the internet.
